Advanced NVMe Cooling Solutions NVMe SSDs generate considerable heat. Dealing with this heat is key to maintaining consistent performance. Failure to do so will results in a condition known as “thermal throttling”; the SSDs will purposely cap throughput to avoid overheating. Unfortunately, many desktop NVMe cards are ill equipped to deal with heat. In most cases, they employ simple heatsinks to protect sensitive chipsets; SSDs are largely left to their own devices and are dependent on the system’s default cooling system to keep things up and running. For 1 or 2 M.2 SSDs, this is generally not a problem. However, when you start using them in groups things can start to fall apart.
